Department of State Divisions of Cultural Affairs and Historical Resources Hold Grant Workshops in Rural and Underserved Communities Statewide


Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today that Department of State grants staff is visiting communities in rural or underserved areas across Florida to hold workshops intended to help constituents apply for and manage grants made available by the agency. At the workshops, staff will present opportunities for Cultural Affairs and Historical Resources grant programs and provide optional one-on-one consultations for participants.

“We want to ensure that rural and underserved communities have access to funds provided by the Governor and Legislature for cultural and historical programs,” Detzner said. “We have many grant programs available through the Divisions of Cultural Affairs and Historical Resources, and we encourage local arts, historical and cultural organizations to participate in these workshops to learn about the application process and receive training on writing successful grant applications.”

Workshops have already been presented in Cocoa and St. Augustine. Additional workshops will be held in LaBelle, Wauchula, New Port Richey, Madison and Pensacola. See the full schedule below.

About the Division of Historical Resources

The Florida Department of State’s Division of Historical Resources (DHR) is responsible for preserving and promoting Florida’s historical, archaeological, and folk culture resources. The Division Director’s office oversees a grants-in-aid program to help preserve and maintain Florida’s historic buildings and archaeological sites; coordinates outreach programs such as the State Historic Markers program and the Florida Folklife program which identifies and promotes the state's traditional culture. DHR directs historic preservation efforts throughout the state in cooperation with state and federal agencies, local governments, private organizations, and individuals. The Division director serves as the State Historic Preservation Officer, acting as the liaison with the national historic preservation program conducted by the National Park Service.
