    Florida Historic Golf Trail

    The Florida Department of State recently launched the Florida Historic Golf Trail program at Winter Park Golf and Country Club in Winter Park, Florida. The Florida Historic Golf Trail celebrates Florida’s early golf heritage from the 1890s through World War II, by featuring historic, publicly accessible golf courses that can still be played on today.     Main Street Of the Month: Leesburg

    Leesburg Partnership has been designated the Florida Main Street Program of the Month for January 2015. Communities are selected based on their developmental achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street Program.  Designated a Main Street community in 1994, Leesburg continues to celebrate their 20th anniversary, which occurred in August 2014. Leesburg’s main street of today was originally the town’s main highway.  In recent years it has reclaimed its place as the prosperous city center. Read More

    Florida's Newly Listed National Register Properties

    Five Florida properties were recently listed in the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places. The Sunshine State Arch  in Miami Gardens, The Marina Historic District in Delray Beach, The Dunedin Isles Golf Club Course in Pinellas county, O’Leno State Park along the Santa Fe River in Alachua and Columbia counties, and the Arden ‘Doc’ Thomas House in Miami were all listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Read More

    USS Narcissus - Florida's 12th Underwater Preserve

    Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced on January 20, 2015, Florida’s newest Underwater Archaeological Preserve, USS Narcissus. The Civil War tugboat was dedicated during an official ceremony, hosted by the Florida Department of State, The Florida Aquarium and South Eastern Archaeological Services at the Florida Aquarium in Tampa.  Read more
