    Florida Historic Golf Trail

    The Florida Department of State recently launched the Florida Historic Golf Trail program at Winter Park Golf and Country Club in Winter Park, Florida. The Florida Historic Golf Trail celebrates Florida’s early golf heritage from the 1890s through World War II, by featuring historic, publicly accessible golf courses that can still be played on today.     Main Street Of the Month: Bartow

    Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced that Bartow Main Street has been designated the Florida Main Street Community of the Month for March 2015. Communities are selected based on their developmental achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street Program. Bartow was designated a Main Street community in 1986, a year after the Florida Main Street program was established. To date, Bartow has totaled $10 billion in reinvestment on over 326 projects, and added 235 new businesses and 1,316 jobs.  Read More

    Florida's Newly Listed National Register Properties

    Eight Florida properties were recently listed in the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places. The Rogers Park Golf Course in Hillsborough County, the Los Robles Historic District in Tallahassee, the Strickland School in Leon County, the Mai Kai Restaurant in Oakland Park, the City of St. Augustine Miniature Golf Course in downtown St. Augustine, the Sunset Hotel in St. Petersburg, the Norman Film Studios in Jacksonville and the Vagabond Motel in Miami were all listed.     USS Narcissus - Florida's 12th Underwater Preserve

    Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced on January 20, 2015, Florida’s newest Underwater Archaeological Preserve, USS Narcissus. The Civil War tugboat was dedicated during an official ceremony, hosted by the Florida Department of State, The Florida Aquarium and South Eastern Archaeological Services at the Florida Aquarium in Tampa.  Read more
