    Victory Florida Launches

    Secretary of State Ken Detzner has announced the launch of Victory Florida, a campaign recognizing 70 years since the ending of World War II. At two press events, one in Fort Lauderdale as part of Fleet Week on May 9, and one held at the Florida Capitol on May 11, Secretary Detzner honored the role of Florida and its veterans during the war and encouraged partnering communities to plan Victory Florida activities across the state as part of this campaign.     Historic Preservation Grant Cycle NOW OPEN!

    The 2017 Small Matching Grant Application period opens on April 1, 2015 and closes June 1, 2015. Small Matching grants are awarded annually, subject to legislative funding approval, for the rehabilitation and restoration of historic structures, architectural and archaeological surveys which include the recording of the sites in the Florida Master Site File, State Historical Markers , community education projects, and National Register nominations.

    Main Street Of the Month: Eau Gallie Arts District

    Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced that Eau Gallie (pronounced “Oh-gally”) Arts District (EGAD) Main Street in Melbourne has been designated the April 2015 Florida Main Street Community of the Month. Designated a program in 2010, EGAD has generated over $1 million from 26 public and private reinvestment projects. Their successes include 12 new businesses, 97 new jobs, and 14,526 volunteer hours.  Read More

    Florida Historic Golf Trail

    The Florida Department of State recently launched the Florida Historic Golf Trail program at Winter Park Golf and Country Club in Winter Park, Florida. The Florida Historic Golf Trail celebrates Florida’s early golf heritage from the 1890s through World War II, by featuring historic, publicly accessible golf courses that can still be played on today.     Florida's Newly Listed National Register Properties

    Eight Florida properties were recently listed in the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places. The Rogers Park Golf Course in Hillsborough County, the Los Robles Historic District in Tallahassee, the Strickland School in Leon County, the Mai Kai Restaurant in Oakland Park, the City of St. Augustine Miniature Golf Course in downtown St. Augustine, the Sunset Hotel in St. Petersburg, the Norman Film Studios in Jacksonville and the Vagabond Motel in Miami were all listed.
