FIU Libraries as Publisher

At Florida International University (FIU), the libraries’ publishing endeavors focus on digital media.

Students and faculty publish a wide array of materials through Digital Commons, FIU’s Institutional Repository (IR).

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The ETD Collection is a collaborative publishing effort between the FIU Libraries and the University Graduate School. Together, they accept, process and publish final copies of students’ theses and dissertations.

Graduate students must publish their theses or dissertations through the IR. To add older theses and dissertations housed in the special collections department, the library introduced a scanning project.

Journals

The IR hosts a number of peer-reviewed research journals.

Conference Materials

FIU Libraries publishes materials and proceedings from conferences hosted by FIU.

Project, annual and departmental reports are also published in the IR, notably: 

  • SERC (Southeast Environmental Research Center)
  • LTER (Long Term Ecological Research)

Videos

The libraries publish a number of videos from individual departments and university-wide events.

University Archives and Special Collections

Official records relating to FIU reside at the University Archives, while Special Collections holds primary sources focused on Latin America, the Caribbean, Florida and Miami.

The FIU Libraries publish born-digital and scanned print materials from both of these departments, in collections such as:

imls180.for.panel.jpgMany of these resources and programs are funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Florida's LSTA program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.
