Luella Knott: Her Life Through Music

Tallahassee –

Secretary of State Ken Detzner invites the public to a performance about the life and times of Mrs. Luella Knott at the Knott House Museum in downtown Tallahassee on June 28 at 7:00 p.m. and June 29 at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Knott’s story provides a unique view of Tallahassee in the early twentieth century. Musician Diane Whitney interprets Mrs. Knott’s story through the music of her life and times.

"Using art to explore history allows the audience and performer to discover what they otherwise might have missed," said Secretary Detzner. "This program examines Mrs. Knott’s, and Tallahassee’s, history through the arts of music and poetry. I invite those who have not yet been to the Knott House to come to this event, or to come again, as this is an exciting new opportunity to experience the house."

Mrs. Knott was born in the Victorian era and lived until the sixties. She was known for her love of the arts, including poetry and music.

"We have a great photo of Mrs. Knott in front of a piano in her home,” said Knott House Supervisor Beatrice Cotellis. “The photo became the inspiration for this performance."

Diane Whitney’s performance includes highlights from a variety of styles and types of music popular in the early twentieth century, as well as poetry written by Mrs. Knott. Through this performance, visitors can learn about an important Tallahassee resident and the house that bears her name.

Tickets for the performance are $2.50 for members of the Friends of the Museums of Florida History, Inc. and $5.00 for nonmembers. For information on membership, tickets, and the performance, call 850.922.2459.
