Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee Announces Exclusive, Advance Screening of And Two If By Sea with Special Guests CJ Hobgood and Justin Purser

Tallahassee –

On Thursday, April 18, 2019, the Department of State’s Museum of Florida History is pleased to present a special screening of the new documentary And Two If By Sea. This feature-length film explores the lives of Florida natives, pro surfers, and twin brothers CJ and Damien Hobgood. The program will feature a special appearance by CJ Hobgood, 2001 World Surfing Champion, and Justin Purser, director of And Two if By Sea. Prior to the screening, Justin Purser and CJ Hobgood will discuss the film.

The event begins with a reception at 5:00 p.m., followed at 5:45 p.m. by the discussion, and the film presentation at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but RSVPs via the Eventbrite ticket link on the Museum’s Facebook page are requested.

“Florida has produced many world class professional surfers,” said Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee. And Two If By Sea provides a fascinating look at the lives of two of those surfers, CJ and Damien Hobgood. We are excited to welcome CJ Hobgood and the film’s director, Justin Purser, to the Museum to talk about the making of this documentary and the surfing careers of the Hobgood brothers.”

The program complements the Museum’s special exhibition, Surf’s Up, Florida!, which is open through June 23. The exhibit highlights Florida’s surfing history through artifacts, photos, videos, and interactive elements.

Program sponsor: Surfing’s Evolution & Preservation Foundation. Programing sponsored in part by the State of Florida through the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
