PRESS RELEASE: Secretary Byrd Reminds Voters of July 25 Voter Registration Deadline for Florida’s Primary Election

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –

Secretary of State Cord Byrd reminds voters that the deadline for registering to vote in Florida’s 2022 Primary Election is this Monday, July 25.

I encourage all eligible voters to check their voter registration status and make sure that their information is up to date. Voters only have until Monday, July 25, 2022, to register to vote or update their party affiliation to be effective for the August 23, 2022, Primary Election,” said Secretary of State Cord Byrd.

Florida residents can check their current registration status, register to vote or update their existing registration through the Department’s online voter registration website RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov. Users will need their Florida driver license or Florida identification card and the last four digits of their social security number. In order to verify a user’s identity, the information typed into the online voter registration website must exactly match the information that appears on their most recent Florida driver license or state identification card.

Florida residents also have the option to use the website to complete, print and sign a paper application that can be mailed or hand-delivered to their local Supervisor of Elections. To find locations for local Supervisor of Elections, please click here.

An update to a voter’s signature for provisional and vote-by-mail ballot verification purposes for the Primary Election must be received before the voter's ballot is received by their Supervisor of Elections. For more information, please contact your local Supervisor of Elections.

Florida is a closed primary state which means that only voters who are registered members of political parties may vote for their respective party candidates for an office in a primary election. However, all qualified voters regardless of party affiliation or no party affiliation can vote in the following races appearing on a primary election ballot:

  • All candidates in the same race who have the same party affiliation and the winner will have no opposition in the general election;
  • Nonpartisan judicial and school board offices;
  • Nonpartisan special districts and other local offices; and
  • Local referendum questions.
