Managing Data

Big Data is increasingly a topic of conversation in the institutional repository community, including at NSUWorks. Fortunately, it’s well-prepared to meet the challenges of hosting large amounts of data.

When Dr. Tracey Sutton of CNSO received a grant to study effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on the Gulf of Mexico’s flora and fauna, his team needed a data management system that:

  • Allowed scientists collaborating around the country to upload raw data
  • Allowed the different research facilities working on the project to access the data
  • Stored data during a research phase lasting several years

Without NSUWorks, the team would have been forced to purchase a third-party data management platform.

Instead, NSUWorks collaborated with the team to devise an effective data management program for the project’s pre-publication phase.

When the final data sets are complete, they’ll be uploaded to both GoMRI and NSUWorks for the world to see. In the meantime, you can find out more and follow the project’s progress on the DEEPEND website.

NSU Libraries are delighted to provide NSUWorks as a publishing platform to all university faculty, staff and students.
