October Program of the Month

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today that St. Cloud Main Street has been designated the October 2018 Florida Main Street Program of the Month. Communities are selected based on their development achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street program.

“St. Cloud Main Street has worked hard to preserve the history of its downtown and generate impressive economic returns,” said Secretary Detzner. “Their hard work is shown through their many successful projects including the St. Cloud Historical Mural Trail.”

September Program of the Month 

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today the Eau Gallie Arts District in Melbourne has been designated the September 2018 Florida Main Street Community of the Month. Communities are selected based on their development achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street Program.

“The Eau Gallie Arts District is a valuable asset to the Florida Main Street program,” said Secretary Detzner. “This enthusiastic community has successfully merged their appreciation of history with their love of the arts.”

August Program of the Month

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today that Main Street Bartow has been designated the August 2018 Florida Main Street Community of the Month. Communities are selected based on their development achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street Program.

“Main Street Bartow is an exemplary program,” said Secretary Detzner. “With one of the longest standing Main Street programs in Florida, downtown Bartow continues to thrive with constant growth, investment and additional businesses moving to the area.”

Florida Main Street recently held a photo competition for its local Main Streets. The three winning photos were announced at the Florida Main Street Annual Conference. 

First Place: Quincy Main Street

Second Place: EDGE District Business Association

Secretary of State Award's Banquet Winners

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today the winners of the 2018 Florida Main Street Awards. This annual awards program showcases the innovative practices and projects that make each historic community successful. Two award categories were presented including the Honor Awards, which highlight the very “best of the best” Main Street communities, and the Merit Awards, which recognize outstanding examples of redevelopment and leadership.

“I am proud to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of the Main Street organizations, team members, local governments and associates that help make the Florida Main Street program so effective,” said Secretary Detzner. “Their dedication to Main Street programs across the state is essential to the historic preservation and economic revitalization of Florida’s downtowns.”

July Program of the Month

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today that Main Street Vero Beach has been designated the July 2018 Florida Main Street Community of the Month. Communities are selected based on their development achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street Program.

“For over 20 years, Main Street Vero Beach has worked to revitalize downtown with an array of historic preservation projects and events,” said Secretary Detzner. “This historic Florida community retains small town charm while offering a city core that features beautiful scenery, endless shops and restaurants.”

June Program of the Month 

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today that Homestead Main Street has been designated the June 2018 Florida Main Street Community of the Month. Communities are selected based on their development achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street Program.

“Homestead Main Street is a true Cinderella story,” said Secretary Detzner. “Their Main Street team took the devastation of Hurricane Andrew and turned the city into one of Florida’s must-see destinations.”

On the verge of discovery, Fort Pierce has been compared to other notable small towns with charming main streets. Main Street, Fort Pierce has seven National Register of Historic Places locations downtown, which includes the Sunrise Theatre, Moore's Creek Bridge, and the site Fort Pierce is named for, the original Army post during the Seminole War.

Apalachicola Main Street Offers Free Trolleys  

Beginning this Saturday, May 26, and continuing through Sunday, June 10, Apalachicola Main Street is sponsoring free trolley tours of Apalachicola.

The tour guide is Jeff Ilardi, well-known locally for his river tours and many living history presentations.

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today that EDGE District Main Street in St. Petersburg has been designated the May 2018 Florida Main Street Community of the Month. Communities are selected based on their development achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street Program.

“The EDGE District has made a big impact in the four years it has been a Main Street program,” said Secretary Detzner. “Their Main Street team has worked hard to preserve the community’s history and to create a vibrant district with a variety of retail, restaurants and activities.”

Main Street Frostproof Offers Presentation for a Better City 

Last year, Frostproof was one out of three cities selected to be added to the list of Main Street communities by Florida’s Secretary of State.

Part of the services provided to these new communities include a visit from a resource team to help develop a personalized plan to revitalize the city while preserving the aspects that make it unique.

April Program of the Month  

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today that Deuces Live Main Street in St. Petersburg, Florida has been designated the April 2018 Florida Main Street Community of the Month. Communities are selected based on their development achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street Program.

“Deuces Live is a community filled with a rich history and culture,” said Secretary Detzner. “They have taken admirable steps to preserve its charm and revitalize the area through initiatives like the I-275 Underpass Improvement Project that highlights the beauty of this historic community.”
